FREDERICKTOWN — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Friday on Ohio 13 a quarter mile north of Beckley Road, at 1:52 p.m.
Timothy A. Callahan, 47, Columbus, was traveling northbound on Ohio 13 in a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix, when he went left of center and struck a southbound 2006 Mack semi truck driven by Abdikarim A. Ismail, 35, Columbus. Both vehicles came to rest off the west edge of the roadway.
Witnesses told the OSHP that Callahan was weaving in the road.
Rescuers from the Mount Vernon and Fredericktown fire departments used Jaws of life to extricate Callahan from the car. He died while they were working on the extraction. Knox County Coroner Dr. Jennifer Ogle pronounced Callahan dead at the scene. Ismail was treated at the scene by EMS personnel.
Ohio 13 was closed down at Upper Fredericktown Road by an ODOT crew and at the Fredericktown bypass by sheriff’s deputies. It was closed for more than two hours while troopers investigated.
According to the OSHP, alcohol is considered to be a factor in the crash. Seat belts were in use.
