MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis drew to a close monthlong activities celebrating Developmental Disability Awareness Month by signing a proclamation Wednesday.

The proclamation stated that individuals with developmental disabilities are “Just Like You,” and encouraged people to get to know individuals with disabilities.

“This is one of the best things about my job,” said Mavis, “something I really enjoy doing.”

Developmental Disability Awareness Month activities included the annual kick-off luncheon and Celebrity Omelet Dinner, a bowling event, a special education recognition program and various informational sessions.
