  • Changes to utility costs addressed

  • April 6, 2010

FREDERICKTOWN — Jerry Smith of Volunteer Energy Services Inc. addressed council Monday night about changes being made in how natural gas will be sold to customers. Volunteer Energy is the supplier for Columbia Gas, and is also contracted with the village for 364 consumers as well as other areas in Knox County.

As of April 1, Columbia Gas customers should see a new Standard Service Offer charge on their bill. This charge replaces the Gas Cost Recovery charge, or GCR. SSO is the cost of acquiring natural gas, and is adjusted each month to reflect market prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The SSO rate includes the NYMEX monthly settlement price plus a retail price adjustment based on a yearly wholesale gas supply auction.
