  • Greer named Luke Biggs Award winner

  • April 6, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — The Kiwanis Club of Mount Vernon awarded the Luke Biggs Agriculture Award to David Greer at its weekly meeting Monday.

Kiwanian Doug McLarnan began the presentation with a description of what the award means and why it is awarded.

“Agriculture is about the biggest industry we have in the county as far as cash exchange and as far as the value of the property that is in agricultural use,” said McLarnan. “Through this economic recession we have seen that agriculture has been there as a foundation for us. Our farmers and the people involved in agriculture have helped us through this pretty tough time. We have a very good farm economy and we are here today to honor that, and to honor Luke Biggs, who, among many other things, was a very wonderful man.”

McLarnan said Biggs was a very strong proponent of agriculture in the county and a great humanitarian.
