  • Daisy Scouts help troops

  • April 7, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — The Daisy Girl Scout Troop 2434 of Mount Vernon extended their petals to touch the lives of soldiers in the 5/2 - 5th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division serving in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The Daisies sent a care package to the troops, not knowing that they would receive a gift in return.

“We were very surprised to see the plaque and the pictures,” said Allison Trikouros, troop leader. “We didn’t expect anything. We know they are working hard over there and it’s hard to stay in communication with people. The pictures really topped it off because I don’t think the girls realized the magnitude of what they were doing for the soldiers until they saw the pictures.”

The idea started as a way for the Girl Scouts to earn their petals in being considerate and caring.
