The location has been changed from the Knox County Service Center to the Mount Vernon City Schools Central Office at 300 Newark Road. The main entrance to the building is off Pine Street; there is no entry from Newark Road.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the county commissioners,” said Steve Short, superintendent of schools. “I understand why we need to move, and I just appreciate the time that they offered and the time that they gave. It was nice to work with them.
“The extended amount of time the commissioners allowed us to use their facilities is appreciated, as is their cooperation with the district. I know it was an inconvenience to them. It is another example of our community where we try to do what we can to help each other out and to work together. I would like to express my gratitude to them.”
The hearing will be held in the first floor board room, which Short said will be reconfigured to match the previous site as closely as possible. He said the number of spectator seats will be about the same, approximately 25.
Central Office doors open at 7:30 a.m., but the hearing room will not open until the referee arrives. As at the commissioners office, hearing attendees should obtain a number from the receptionist upon arrival and return the number at the end of the day.
Individuals attending the hearing are asked not to park on the Pine Street side of the building. Short said there is ample parking available on the southeast corner of the property. That is on a portion of the former playground area, and is accessed off Salem Street between Pine and Riley streets. The entrance through the fence to the parking area is closer to Riley Street than Pine. Hearing attendees are also asked to use the building’s main entrance rather than the doors adjoining the playground area.
Handicapped parking and building access is on the Pine Street side of the facility.
