MOUNT VERNON — The Ohio Council for the Social Studies has named Mount Vernon High School teacher Bill Shriver as the High School Social Studies Teacher of the Year. He was so honored because of his hard work, dedication and excellence in the teaching of social studies skills and content.

“Mr. Shriver is an excellent teacher who works hard at his profession, both in and out of the classroom,” said Robin Hren, MVHS social studies department chairwoman and Shriver’s colleague. “The students and faculty respect him as a highly motivated and skilled teacher. He is tireless in his desire to gain new knowledge and learn new teaching techniques. This is especially true if this effort will benefit his students, be they the students in his classes or the students in all Kenyon Advanced Placement and social studies classes.”

“I am honored by the recognition,” Shriver said. “Throughout my career I have worked with many outstanding teachers. An award like this is a reflection of the type of learning environment they have established at Mount Vernon High School.

Shriver will be presented the award at the OCSS Annual Conference Award’s Breakfast on Friday.
