MOUNT VERNON — The city is ready for the spring baseball season to begin.

Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis said workers in the city parks department have been working hard to get the parks ready for the first pitch of the new season. An opening ceremony will be this morning at 9 at the Babe Ruth Field at Memorial Park, with games beginning at noon at Phillips Park and Dan Emmett Park.

The workers have been busy mowing the grass at the parks, and Parks Director Geoff Oliver said the restrooms will be open. He also said there are four lights with the bulbs burned out at the parks, but they will be fixed sometime this week.
