CENTERBURG — On Monday, the Centerburg Board of Education gave special recognition to the elementary student council. The children spearheaded an effort that raised $1,400 for the Haiti Relief fund.
Superintendent Dorothy Holden told the News on Monday she expected finances to be one topic of discussion. The treasurer has received notification of probable further reductions in state aid to schools, and, Holden said, “Finances are dismal everywhere.”
One of the budget reduction measures Holden planned to propose to the board involved the grade six through 12 vocal music position. The reduction in force measure due to financial reasons reduced the position from a 3/4 position to a 3/7 position. Holden said it used to be a 3/7 position, and added, “We have to move ahead [budget-wise], and we can’t move ahead while keeping the same expenditures.”
