  • Morrisons honored at Farm-City Dinner

  • April 27, 2010

MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Granges presented its Grangers of the Year Award to Don and Ruth Morrison of Pleasant Grange 677 at the annual Farm-City Dinner held at the Mount Vernon High School on Monday night. The award was presented by John and Mary Beutel, Pomona Grange lecturers.

“It was hard to make the decision for Granger of the Year,” said John Beutel. “Every year when we look around the county for candidates for Granger of the Year, we look not only for length of service, but quality of service. On that note, it is our great pleasure to present the 2010 Grangers of the Year Award to Don and Ruth Morrison.”

“I really wasn’t expecting this,” Don said.

The flags were presented by members of Boy Scout Troop 330 of Mount Vernon.

The “Star-spangled Banner” was played by Charlien Beightol and the invocation was given by Janet White, a Morgan Grange member.

Mary Jewell filled in for Lonnie Totten, Knox County Grange deputy, who was not present because of an illness in the family. Jewell and Marie Walker did the Grange welcome; Dee Cole performed the introduction of officers of Pomona Grange.
