MOUNT VERNON — There’s a hidden gem within the city limits of Mount Vernon.

It’s an old quarry that is nearly hidden, just south of the Kokosing River off of Madison Street. It’s Foundation Park.

The 104-acre former quarry was purchased by the city a few years ago and is now looking to become the crown jewel of the park system. Three lakes full of all kinds of fish, three miles of walking trails and plenty of room for a picnic all make for a great park.
