MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Mount Vernon fugitive who recently has been writing numerous checks on a closed account.

According to Sheriff David Barber, 30-year-old Chad Alan Cardwell is wanted on felony charges of failure to appear on one count of theft and three counts of forgery.

Cardwell is described as a white male (date of birth is Sept. 30, 1979), 5 feet 8 inches tall, 135 pounds with short brown hair and blue eyes.

Barber said Cardwell has recently been passing hundreds of dollars worth of checks written on a closed account in the county. Barber cautions citizens not to accept a check from Cardwell.

Anyone with information about Cardwell, whose last known address was 304 Calhoun St., Mount Vernon, is asked to contact the sheriff’s office at 397-3333 or 393-6800.
