COLUMBUS — Three-year-old Elizabeth Pursley, who was critically injured in an accident Sunday evening, died Monday in Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus. The crash happened on Waterford Road, northwest of Fredericktown near the Morrow County line. The car, driven by the girl’s mother, left the wet road and hit a tree.

Also in the car was Elizabeth’s brother, Devon Pursley, 5, who is listed in critical condition in Nationwide Children’s Hospital. At the time of the accident their mother, Melissa Pursley, 27, was taken to Morrow County Hospital in Mount Gilead, where she was treated and released. The Pursleys are from Crestline.

In the course of investigating the crash, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said alcohol appears to have played a role in the crash.

Lt. Chad McGinty, commander of the OSHP post in Mount Gilead, said the OSHP is still investigating the crash and will decide if charges will be filed against Melissa Pursley.
