Local group caught up in Times Square bomb scare

Just minutes after this photo was taken on Times Square, this group of local residents searched for an alternative route Saturday evening after streets, theaters and stores were evacuated because of a suspicious smoking vehicle. Brenneman retires

Capt. Richard Brenneman retired from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on Friday after a 20-year career. He started as a special deputy in 1990 and has served in a variety of areas, including training, hostage negotiation and grant writing. He was promoted to captain in 2007, the second in command of the sheriff’s office. He will stay on as a special deputy working part time at jobs that include the Marine Patrol Division.  (Virgil Shipley)

Hot meals program celebrates 10 years

On Friday, Hot Meals Program of Mount Vernon commemorated its 10th anniversary. Participating churches were represented among the guests and received a proclamation from Mayor Richard Mavis in appreciation of their community service.
