COLUMBUS — A Danville man was killed this morning while working along U.S. 36 just west of Howard as part of an Ohio Department of Transportation crew.
Shawn Blubaugh, 41, and his teammates were conducting routine tree and shrubbery work, according to Jolene M. Molitoris, ODOT director. He has been a highway technician with ODOT since 2002.
“ODOT safety experts are working with the Ohio State Highway Patrol to determine the cause of events that led to Shawn’s death,” said Molitoris. “In the meantime, my heartfelt sympathy and that of every member of Team ODOT goes out to Shawn’s wife, Toni, and his two children.
“At ODOT, safety is a top priority — in the workplace, on the construction site, and with the traveling public. This day is a devastating reminder that safety must always be our first concern, and in partnership with the Ohio Civil Service Employees Association, we will continue to ensure that our employees are trained in the latest safety practices.”
The Mount Vernon News will continue to update this story as more information is released from the OSHP.
