Columbia sets blood drive record

Repairing damage from the storm

The brief Friday night storm blew over a big tree on North Park Street, taking down wires and three 50-year-old AEP power poles. The outage affected 122 customers. In the buckets replacing a transformer are, left, linemen Eric Doup and Jeff Robertson. Service was restored late Saturday. Lineman George Daley said there were other scattered outages from the storm.   (Virgil Shipley)

Drive-in business

A front window was shattered and the frame was damaged when a car drove into the Clips-N-Snips salon at 500 S. Main St., Saturday at 12:27 p.m. Mount Vernon Police officials said Jacklyn Gloyd, 24, Mount Vernon, was attempting to back out of the area in front of the salon and drove forward into the window. She was charged with reckless operation off the street.  (Virgil Shipley)
