MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon High School has announced Seth Shannon as this year’s winner of the student agenda cover design contest. Assistant Principal Sam Shuman said Shannon wowed teachers and students alike with his contemporary and school-spirited design.

For the past four years, with the help of Premier Design, Mount Vernon High School has given students the opportunity to design the cover of the school’s agenda, which contains the school rules, hall passes and a calendar/organizer that students can use to track assignments. Shuman said the contest is a way to recognize students’ artistic strengths and reward them for their creative and inspiring designs. The cover design contest is open to all underclassmen who wish to enter, and the entries are voted upon by MVHS staff.

Shuman said last year’s winner, Sara Hill, constructed a remarkable digital design in Photocopy.

Art teachers Caroline DeToro, Sarah Farmer and Deanna Badger serve as artistic consultants for the contest, and Premier Design has used the MVHS contest to initiate similar strategies of student contributions in other high schools around the country.
