Some major changes are on the horizon for the Knox County Career Center. Following an executive session to discuss the matter, the school board on Thursday voted to purchase the Mount Vernon Baptist Temple property off Yauger Road with the purchase contract contingent upon appraisal and other legal requirements. Board members Margie Bennett and Jody Goetzman voted against the measure.
“God’s purpose for you is perfection.” That is what the Rev. Mark Fuller told the Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s 400-plus graduates during spring commencement exercises held Saturday in R.R Hodges Chapel/Auditorium.
Kenyon College alumnus William E. Lowry Jr., Class of ’56, started his commencement address to the 182nd graduating class of his alma mater with a joke about a previous alum who went on to become president of the United States.
A select group of the Kenyon College seniors who graduated on Saturday bore a special distinction. The four — Jack Robling of Larchmont, N.Y.; Ben McGee of Austin, Texas; Jarrod Sowell of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and Forest Malchow of Warren, N.J. — have all been members of the College Township Fire Department during their four years at college.
