MOUNT VERNON — Graffiti scratched on a restroom wall warned of a bomb in the Mount Vernon Middle School building this morning. Principal Bill White said they evacuated the students to the football field after a student found the sign.

Mount Vernon Assistant Fire Chief Chris Menapace said a squad was at the school on an unrelated student medical issue when the note was found about 9:40 a.m.

The department sent a fire truck to the school and stood by while the Mount Vernon Police Department checked the school for a device. Nothing was found. School functions resumed about 10:30 a.m.
