“Look back on the past four years,” he told his classmates. “Look back on the good times, the bad times, the sad times and the happy times. Look back on the times we will always remember and never forget. Tonight we take our first step into the world. We’re done, yet we’ve only just started.”

Martin then gave his fellow seniors four tips for success: Plan, persevere, pay attention and remember “you are not going to go it alone.”

“Congratulations East Knox Class of 2010,” he said. “We’re done!”

Salutatorian Jonathan Washatka also had some words of advice for the class. With thanks to Abner Doubleday, Washatka used a baseball analogy to emphasize the importance of focus and concentration. He said one should enjoy each present moment on the way to one’s goals, and should not worry about tomorrow.
