Mishap lands glider pilot in power lines

This tangle of cloth in the power lines is the canopy from a powered paraglider. The pilot, John Vining of Mount Vernon, misjudged an emergency landing and flew into the lines. He had minor injuries.  (Virgil Shipley)

Supply drive

Fredericktown Spanish 4 students were honored May 21 for their participation in a household supply drive led by the Knox County Board of Developmental Disabilities to support Interchurch Social Services. The students collected a truck overflowing with household goods to help low income families; Peppy’s Pizza & Subs provided food for a pizza party to honor their efforts. Mount Vernon’s Ohio Capital Conference Capital Division and Central District winning baseball team handed out its seasonal awards at its annual banquet recently. Leonard wipes slate clean, makes state

Mount Vernon junior Celia Leonard starts the 4x400-meter relay during the district meet last Saturday. The speed she gained from the 4x400 has made her a faster runner, and more of a threat in the longer races.   (Zach Tuggle)
