‘Tie a Purple Ribbon’

“Paint the town purple,” is the theme of these ribbons tied around the fountain and benches on Public Square, as well as throughout downtown. The ribbons are a reminder of the cancer society’s annual Relay for Life, to be held at the Fredericktown stadium Friday and Saturday, June 18-19. James Burch, county committee co-chair, left, and Tonya Hoar, publicity director, helped place ribbons on the fountain on Public Square recently. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard Mavis will sign a proclamation Friday designating June as Relay for Life Month.  (Virgil Shipley)
