  • Storm blows down trees in Brandon

  • June 4, 2010 10:37 am EDT

BRANDON — “I couldn’t see out the window,” said Michelle King as she described the short violent wind storm that swept through Brandon about 4 p.m. Thursday. The wind blew three trees across Ohio 661, just south of Brandon, blocking the road for an hour.

King added there was marble-sized hail mixed in with the rain. The storm passed quickly and a fallen tree in the lawn of the Wendell Combs’ residence pulled down an electric transformer and power lines resulting in a power outage. Power was restored around 8:30 p.m.

A resident just south of Brandon, Dan Hatton, brought his chain saw and cut the top off the tree that smashed a mailbox. A passing pickup truck driver wrapped a chain around the tree and pulled it off the highway. Homer Fire Chief Randy King, who lives in Brandon, called his department who came with equipment to clear the other two trees from the road.
