Veterans float a hit in Memorial Day parade

World War II veterans wave to the crowd during the Mount Vernon Memorial Day Parade on Monday. Seventeen veterans were on the float, sponsored by the Patriotic Memorial Committee, and were honored at the parade.   (Virgil Shipley)

First Friday

A brief rain shower sent First Friday visitors looking for shelter. Sadie Brass, 13, and Morgan Brass, 15, look at a photo of their dad’s barn on display inside Sips Coffee House. The barn is one of several on a barn tour slated for June 19. The photograph of the Brass Farm barn, along with photographs of the other five barns on the tour, will hang at Sips until June 16.  (Cheryl Splain)

Freddies come up short

Roberts wins state title

Emily Roberts, middle, an eighth-grader at Fredericktown Middle School, won the state championship in the 800-meter run at the Ohio Middle School State Championship Meet held on Sunday at Groveport-Madison High School. She finished with a first-place time of 2:28.71 in Division II/III. She is the daughter of Jennier and Rich Roberts of Fredericktown.  (Submitted Photo)
