GAMBIER — Gambier Village Council had a light agenda for its June meeting on Monday night. Council heard about plans for the Fourth of July parade in the village, and had a report from the College Township Fire Department.

Mayor Kirk Emmert reminded residents that the annual Fourth of July parade would start later than usual because the holiday falls on a Sunday this year. Emmert said the parade and the announcing of the Gambier Citizen of the Year ceremony would begin at 12:30 p.m. so that residents would have time to go to church.

The council also heard Bill Smith’s fire chief report, with statistics on runs made by the fire department. The department made 49 runs in May and 157 since the beginning of the year. Smith said the department is in the process of flushing hydrant lines and would supply the village on any hydrant problems.

Four Kenyon College students who had been volunteering with the department graduated this year. Smith said two of them agreed to stay for the summer to assist the first-year student who is staying for the summer.
