  • Electrical failure causes plane to land

  • June 10, 2010 10:44 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — An electrical failure led to the forced landing of a light plane at Knox County Airport, Tuesday at 2:40 p.m. The Ohio State Highway Patrol said a Beechcraft Bonanza, flown by Lee Irvine, 51, Cincinnati, lost the alternator, leaving the four-passenger airplane without electrical power.

This necessitated a forced landing. The retractable landing gear is electrically operated and could not be extended. The patrol said Irvine made a perfect landing on the belly of the low wing plane, and slid to a stop in the middle of the runway.

Irvine and his passenger, Dorothy Hickernell, 82, Chagrin Falls, were not injured.
