MOUNT GILEAD —The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a two vehicle fatal crash. The crash occurred on Friday at 7:30 a.m. on Lower Fredericktown-Amity Road in Knox County.
Deceased is Bryant A. Snyder, 21, of Mount Vernon, who was westbound on Lower Fredericktown Amity Road in a 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Snyder entered a curve at an unsafe speed and slid into the opposing lane striking a 2005 Ford F-150 head-on which was driven by James Shinaberry, 19, of Fredericktown. Shinaberry was not injured.
Also in the 2001 Mitsubishi was Marshall Vilfer, 19, of Bellville, Tiffany Whitmore, 17, of Bellville and Elijah J. Silliman. Silliman was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus by MedFlight with serious injuries. His age and address as well as additional information on his condition are not available at this time. Vilfer and Whitmore were taken to Knox Community Hospital for treatment.
The preliminary investigation indicates safety belts were in use and speed is the cause of the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
FREDERICKTOWN (10:33 a.m.) — The driver of a sports car died this morning after the vehicle collided with a pickup truck north of Mount Vernon. The crash happened on Lower Fredericktown-Amity Road about 7 a.m. on a curve a half mile east of Divelbiss Road.
When Fredericktown medics arrived on the scene they immediately called for a MedFlight helicopter.
Four Ohio State Highway Patrol Troopers were on the scene and a reconstruction team was called in to investigate the crash. No additional details were available to the News this morning as far as the number of passengers, their conditions, or the names of the drivers, or the cause of the accident. The Mitsubishi did have Texas license plates.
Mount Vernon Fire Department’s EMS was called in to assist with mutual aid.
The Knox County Sheriff’s Office assisted on the scene.
