MOUNT VERNON — Knox County is ready to Relay — online. The annual American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Knox County has an interactive Web site that highlights specific information about the event and cancer-related topics. Relay online is also a way to accept team registrations and collect credit card donations.

Relays around the nation have taken the fight against cancer online, and have seen increases in both participation and dollars raised.

“Relaying online is an easy way to spread the word about Relay for Life and ask for support. Part of the registration includes a personal Web page that can be dedicated to telling your personal cancer story,” said Michele Coscia, event online chairwoman.

Once individuals form or join a team, they can share their personal reason for relaying and send out e-mails to friends and family asking for support of the cause through participation or a monetary donation. Top fundraising teams, individual fundraisers and sponsors are highlighted on the front page of the Web site. Teams can even keep track of their total donations raised from the site. The Web site address is www.relayforlife.org/knoxco.

“Of the millions of ways that the Internet is used today, from social networking to online purchasing, raising money and awareness to fight a disease that affects almost all of us is the best one that I’ve come across. We are thrilled to be relaying online in our community,” said Coscia.

“This Web site will make a huge impact in the way that we fight cancer,” said Jody Rutter, event chairwoman.
