DELAWARE — Investigators from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft continue to talk to, and seek, eyewitnesses to determine the cause of an accident that claimed the life of a Columbus man Saturday at Alum Creek Lake.

Investigators have heard conflicting reports from the two boat operators, Robert Baker and Kevin Carpenter, both of Mount Vernon, as to the events that led to the collision.

The accident occurred at approximately 5 p.m. in the area of the Cheshire Road boat ramp and the state park campground ramp.

Dale Baker, 43, died at Ohio State University Medical Center on Saturday night from injuries he sustained from the accident. Robert Baker was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital, where he was treated and later released.

Carpenter and his passenger, Belinda Slone of Mount Vernon, refused medical treatment at the scene for minor injuries.

Anyone with information on the accident is asked to call Division of Watercraft investigators at (740) 548-5490.
