DANVILLE — In a break with past year’s the traditional turkey dinner at the Danville-Howard Turkey Festival, the namesake poultry was replaced with a barbecued chicken dinner. The move was a popular one for the most part.
“Why chicken? Why not chicken,” said Sandy Crow, president of the Danville Lions Club. “This is the Danville fire department’s special recipe and they used to make it at the Gann Festival. But there is no longer a Gann Festival. The Lions Club used to do it on Labor Day but they don’t do it any more. So this is really your only opportunity to get fire department chicken this year. It’s the best in the county.”
The reaction to the chicken dinner was largely favorable.
