  • Kroger hopes to become state liquor agent

  • June 23, 2010 11:30 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — Kroger Inc. is seeking to place an issue on the ballot in November to become a state liquor agent. In order to do so, 173 petitioned names need to be collected from registered voters in precinct 3-B of Mount Vernon.

On Saturday, a worker from Field Resources Management was out on behalf of the Kroger Co. soliciting the names needed. The person was not aware a permit is required in order to petition door to door in the city.

“We didn’t know we had to have a permit in order to petition in Mount Vernon. We’ve done this in other areas and a permit was not required,” said Mike Ambrose, spokesman for Field Resource Management of Columbus.

Ambrose said his company is working with the city to meet the requirements needed to petition in the city.
