FREDERICKTOWN — The streets of Fredericktown have seen an increase in traffic this past week as classes with the Knox Campus of Central Ohio Technical College got under way at the old Fredericktown High School.
Renovations at the downtown Mount Vernon campus prompted COTC administrators to seek an alternative site for classes. In cooperation with the Fredericktown Community Development Foundation, COTC hosted an open house reception Monday evening to welcome students, staff and family members to the new temporary COTC classroom facility.
“We just want this to be a warm welcome to the students and the community who are now making the transition to the Fredericktown campus,” said Joel Daniels, COTC Knox Campus vice president. “We are thrilled with the facility, and the classroom setup is great and is working well.”
Summer quarter classes began June 21 in eight classrooms at the old high school, with the classrooms and two office areas taking up about one-fourth to one-third of the building space. Daniels said there are about 250 students enrolled in summer quarter classes; about 500 students are expected for fall quarter classes.
“We’ll be offering more classes in the fall,” said Daniels, “and we’ll also be doing more recruiting, hoping to draw more students from Morrow and Richland counties.”
