COLUMBUS — A Fredericktown woman has been indicted for theft in office, a fourth-degree felony.
A recent audit report for the village of Ashley, released by State Auditor Mary Taylor, included items regarding action against Tamera Griffith, 38. The report states Griffith was indicted for various counts of theft in office during her tenure as clerk for the village of Ashley, Jan. 1, 2007, through June 19, 2009.
The first item in the report involves Ken Griffith, husband of Tamera Griffith, who was employed by the village to operate the village’s wastewater treatment plant. He was to receive weekly paychecks of $673.08; however, it was found he was overpaid $9,423 between Jan. 1, 2007 and June 19, 2009. The checks were signed by his wife.
The second item in the report involves a 3 percent raise for all village employees, including Mrs. Griffith, granted on March 5, 2008. With the raise, Mrs. Griffith was to be paid $12.26 per hour. In calculating her gross pay based on time sheets, it was discovered she was overpaid $8,235.49 from Jan. 1, 2007, through June 12, 2009.
Mrs. Griffith is scheduled for arraignment on Aug. 23 in the Delaware County Court of Common Pleas.
