HOWARD — The Apple Valley Property Owners Association elected three new members to the board of directors during its June election.
Electees Terrilynn Brown, George Dunham and Sally Slonaker will serve three-year terms.
The board is the maintenance and administration body of the Apple Valley community properties and facilities, as well as the enforcer of the restricted covenants and bylaws. Electee, Slonaker, however, uses a simpler definition.
“The board oversees the workings of the valley to make the best community possible for all the residents to live in,” Slonaker said.
Slonaker has been an active voice in the Apple Valley community through her membership in the Lake Committee, Fish and Restocking Club, Community Emergency Response Team and Gold Wing Road Riders Association. She is also the acting chapter director of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, Chapter Y, Mount Vernon.
However, as a board member Slonaker would like to use her professional experience in accounting to play a more active role in the community, particularly concerning Apple Valley’s finances.
“I’m willing to be used as an advisor, looking into the depths of contracts to make sure [Apple Valley] is getting the best bang for our buck,” Slonaker said.
An eight-year member of the AVPOA Architectural Control Committee, AVPOA Card Club coordinator, AVPOA Lake Patrol member, and active Neighborhood Watch participant, Dunham’s motivation to join the board was less specific.
Dunham simply wanted to improve the overall health of the lake, in addition to the satisfaction of Apple Valley’s residents.
