  • Fredericktown board takes tough fiscal steps

  • July 14, 2010 11:18 am EDT

FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown Board of Education took what board president Tom Seymour described as “painful steps” to be as “fiscally responsible as possible,” and to help alleviate the district’s “unfortunate financial situation partly because the levy failed in May.”

Expressing reluctance, the board voted to increase the athletic participation fee from $50 to $100 for high school students and from $35 to $70 for middle school pupils. It also approved a reduction in staff for financial reasons, eliminating one library media specialist position and three one-on-one aide positions, and decided that another teaching position will not be filled when the incumbent retires.
