MOUNT GILEAD — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred Wednesday at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Upper Fredericktown Road south of Beckley Road in Knox County.

Dennis J. Kimbrell, 50, of Fredericktown was driving a 1995 Pontiac Firebird. He was headed northbound on Upper Fredericktown Road and attempted to pass another vehicle, lost control, slid off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Knox County Coroner Jennifer Ogle.

Speed was a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
