MOUNT VERNON — An independently owned thrift shop with a new twist is now open for business for Mount Vernon area shoppers looking for some good deals.
Stop & Save, 502-A Coshocton Ave. (between Dirko’s Pizza and Ron’s Pizza), opened its doors earlier this month, offering a variety of new and gently used items.
“All of our items are new or nearly new,” said Tami Frazier, who owns the business with her husband, Jeff. “We don’t have any junk.”
Items available at Stop & Save include clothing, shoes, toys, baby items, and a variety of household items and decorations.
“I like trying to help people, especially in this economy today,” said Frazier. “I want to keep my prices reasonable.”
The store is sectioned off with area designations for items such as shoes, clothes, housewares, etc.
“We’ve received a lot of positive feedback regarding the prices, as well as how nice the items are,” said Frazier’s mother, Mary Whitesel, who works at Stop & Save for her daughter.
“Mom’s great with all the customers,” said Frazier, adding how her mother had her own store in Mansfield for 17 years, so she brings a lot of experience to the business. “She’s really helped put the store together.”
While there are already a lot of items to peruse in the store, more items will be arriving over time.
“We have a large room in the back, which will be open later on, displaying some furniture and other large items,” said Frazier.
Donation of items will soon be accepted, according to Frazier, who said she plans on having a bin near the front of the store where items can be dropped off. These donations will go to aid Christian Star Academy, a private Christian school in Mount Vernon. Frazier said she has suppliers for all other items in the store, with proceeds benefiting the business.
“We’ve already had a hard time keeping up with inventory,” said Frazier, noting that it’s been a steady stream of business. “The difference between us and other thrift stores is our price and cleanliness; it’s almost like being in a boutique shop with thrift prices.”
Stop & Save is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Friday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. It is closed Sundays and Mondays.
