  • Smith named music teacher at Fredericktown

  • July 15, 2010 11:14 am EDT

FREDERICKTOWN — Jerod Smith is Fredericktown’s new instrumental music teacher. A Johnstown Johnnies band alumnus, he graduated from Ohio University with a degree in music education.

Smith has hit the ground running, so to speak, as he has already started to work with band students this week in pre-band camp activities.

“I’m really excited to be teaching here in Fredericktown,” he said. “Jessica Overholt [assistant band director] and Jim Thayer [percussion] have been fantastic, and the kids are great. We got a lot of work done in precamp. We made a lot of progress and had fun doing it.”

Smith will be in charge of both the marching and concert bands, and looks forward to maintaining the competition band tradition. He is also pursuing the possibility of doing more “parading” and developing, perhaps, a variety of Friday Night football shows.
