  • Jail approved by marshals

  • July 16, 2010 10:42 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Jail may soon house federal prisoners to increase revenue.

Knox County Sheriff David Barber told the Knox County Commissioners the application to house federal prisoners has been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice. The U.S. Marshal Service, Barber said, has the responsibility of housing federal prisoners, and was “impressed with our facility.”

“They were impressed with our staff,” added Barber. “They liked our proximity to the federal courthouse in Columbus. Being one of only eight jails in Ohio certified by the state didn’t hurt, either.”
