  • Stray bullet a ricochet from target shooting

  • July 16, 2010 3:09 pm EDT

MOUNT VERNON — A ricochet from target shooting caused damage to a home on Colwill Road on Saturday.

“I was target shooting and a bullet ricocheted,” said Thomas Russel. “Usually, the bullets hit the dirt. I’m not sure why this one didn’t.”

Russell, who lives on Depolo Road, confirmed the stray bullet went into a neighbor’s house while they were on vacation.

According to the report from the Knox County Sheriff’s Office the bullet went through a patio window at the home of Ted and Vicky Lacksonen.

“He was a gentleman about it,” said Ted Lacksonen, resident of the Colwill Road home. “He came here and said he would have the damage repaired and he would pay for it.”

In addition to paying for damages, Russell told his neighbors he would be more careful in the future.

“He also told us he would set up better safety precautions,” Lacksonen said.

Knox County Sheriff David Barber said the shooting appeared to be accidental but the incident remains under investigation.
