  • TV show comes to town searching for treasures

  • July 19, 2010 10:48 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — Do you possibly have gold, silver, antiques or other rare collectibles lying around the house? If so, The Treasure Hunters Roadshow wants to see them. The THR, based in Springfield, IL, is bringing its five-day Roadshow to Mount Vernon today through Friday at the Holiday Inn Express, 11555 Upper Gilchrist Road.

The roadshow continually travels year-round and has grown large enough to host over 1,000 events annually. During the show’s visit to Mount Vernon, local residents are invited to bring their antiques and collectibles to learn their age, place of origin and to ask everyone’s favorite question, “What is it worth?” Expert representatives loaded with information will be present, and it’s all absolutely free.

“We chose Mount Vernon because it’s a good-size city,” said Matt Enright, vice president of media relations for THR. “The circulation of the newspaper reaches a good demographic, and we thought it would be a good fit.”
