  • New wrinkle at beef show

  • July 28, 2010 10:34 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — There was a new wrinkle to the Market Beef/Beef Feeder show at the Knox County Fair this year. A new competition class was added; beef pool.

“There are actually two programs we have started,’ said beef barn manager Mark Bennett. “Last year was the first year for the beef feeder program. This is the first year for the beef pool program. Both are designed to try to increase the interest in the exhibitors in the county to bring more beef cattle to the fair.”

Bennett said the numbers of cattle in the beef barn at the fair had started to go down in recent years and they wanted to see more young people excited about bringing beef cattle to the fair.
