MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Board of Education on Wednesday passed the final resolution needed to place an operating levy on the November ballot.
The district is asking voters to approve an additional $2.5 million in operating funds to offset a $2.5 million revenue shortfall. The five-year 4.60 mill levy will cost the owner of a home valued at $100,000 about $140.88 a year, or approximately $11.75 a month. Treasurer Barb Donohue said individual voters can access a millage calculator to find out how much the levy will affect their property tax by going to the Mount Vernon City Schools website, www.mt-vernon.k12.oh.us/, clicking on the Treasurer’s Office button, then clicking on millage calculator.
The board also accepted the resignation of Children’s Resource Center tutor Ashley DiFrancisco, effective Aug. 17. It advanced Jennifer Bishop, Whitney Joseph, Ryan Shoemaker and Crystal Tuel on the salary schedule due to completion of requirements, retroactively approved summer school aides and home instructor Christa Strickland. Raye Ellen Nixon was employed as a 25-hour per week tutor and a trio of sports volunteers was approved. The board issued three supplemental contracts for coaches, and hired Ashley Miller as assistant high school cheerleading advisor for the 2010-11 school year.
