MOUNT VERNON — On Thursday,
the Knox County Career Center Board of Education enjoyed a guided tour of the
new adult training facility on Yauger Road.
Treasurer Tracy Elliott said LPN coordinator Jamie Nininger gave the board a
detailed look at what has been done at the facility so far, and outlined the
plans for what will be done at the Martinsburg Road building as well as the Yauger
Road site to better accommodate adult workforce training needs.
The regular meeting followed the tour.
Regarding the adult education, the board approved new programs, personnel and
short-term courses, pending adequate enrollment. Also, high school math instructor
Dan Matheney was advanced on the salary schedule due to completion of requirements.
In addition to approving routine fiscal actions, the board accepted the donation
of various items to the carpentry and building trades program from Kirk Construction
LLC and the donation of labor costs to install a ramp at the Yauger Road facility,
also from Kirk Construction. The board also authorized Elliott to re-enroll in
the Ohio School Comp group rating program.
Other actions taken by the board included the approval of courses of study for
the early childhood education program and the sports medicine and exercise science
program. The board approved changes/revisions to policies in order to comply
with changes in state and federal regulations, and named the Fredericktown Area
Development Foundation as the official KCCC Family and Civic Engagement Team,
as mandated by state law.
Prior to adjournment, the board appointed Richard McLarnan as its delegate to
the 2010 Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference. No further action
was taken.
The Aug. 19 KCCC school board meeting will be held at noon.
