  • Mayor: Fourth of July celebration a success

  • August 3, 2010 10:42 am EDT

GAMBIER — Gambier Village Council took up the matter of setting wages and benefits for the village’s hourly employees.

A second reading of the ordinance was scheduled to be read but it was tabled because the matter was to be discussed in executive session. Council members were also to discuss small claims judgments in the session. No action was taken Monday night.

Council approved the expenditure of $9,940.89 to HD Supply for handheld radio hardware and software upgrades to remotely read water meters and for sewer billings.

In the mayor’s report, Kirk Emmert reported the village’s Fourth of July celebration was a success. He thanked council member Betsy Heer for her work with the Citizens of the Year, council member Liz Forman for introducing the poet laureate and to Phil and Mary Samuell for their work in organizing the parade.

Emmert said it had been suggested the parade route be shortened next year by having it go forward on Brooklyn Street to Gaskin Avenue and turning right at the market.
