CROTON — Responding to the scene of barn collapses at Ohio Fresh Eggs on Wednesday were 15 members of the Central Ohio Strike Team. The purpose of this team is for building collapse, and search and rescue operations, said team coordinator Gary Hamilton.
It orginated after the Sept. 11, 2001, disaster in New York City and was formed because of terrorism potential. There are currently four strike teams in Ohio with plans for a total of eight regional teams being formed. Current teams are located in Franklin, Summit, Cuyahoga and Hamilton counties.
Wednesday’s involvement at Ohio Fresh Eggs was not a full team deployment. Hamilton said a few members were deployed upon request, while other first responders were members of various fire and EMS units.
When members from the Columbus team arrived at the scene at Ohio Fresh Eggs, it was determined enough resources were available, although they did assist in helping stabilize the situation, according to Hamilton.
Calls to Ohio Fresh Eggs for additional comment were unanswered this morning.
