MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County grand jury sent down 22 indictments this week including felony charges involving two meth labs discovered in July.

Bradley J. Hinkle, 24, Frazeysburg, was indicted on two counts of illegal manufacture of drugs. Hinkle is accused of aggravated trafficking in drugs for allegedly selling methamphetamine on July 9. Hinkle also allegedly threatened to kill an individual he believed turned him in to the sheriff’s office on July 15. Knox County Prosecutor John Thatcher said Hinkle is charged with intimidation of a victim or witness in a criminal case for making the alleged threat.

On July 14, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at two residences on Van Winkle Road where they seized items commonly used in the manufacture of methamphetamine. An investigation revealed that Bradley J. Hinkle, 24, Frazeysburg, was allegedly “cooking meth” at both locations.

Two men were indicted on felonious assault charges.

Chad A. Cheever, 37, Knox County Jail, is accused of assaulting another inmate on July 10. The alleged victim suffered a broken nose and two facial fractures, according to Thatcher. Jail staff and Lt. Gary Rohler, Knox County Sheriff’s Office, investigated the case.

Anthony R. Downing, 20, Brunswick, allegedly punched a 20-year-old male victim in the head and then kicked him in the face, on May 9. The alleged victim suffered a broken jaw. Thatcher said Downing and the alleged victim were at a Knox County campground attending an after-prom party with students from high schools in Brunswick and Strongsville. Lt. Rohler investigated the case.

Five men face felony domestic violence and related charges.

According to the indictment, Curtis W. Hull, 27, Mount Vernon, was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court in 2005, and felony domestic violence in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas in 2007. Hull is accused of assaulting his live-in girlfriend on July 22. Hull also faces a charge of felonious assault for allegedly attempting to cause serious physical harm to two other women with a hammer during the same incident. Patrolman Travis Tharp, Mount Vernon Police Department, investigated the case.

Jaryd J. Young, 34, Mount Vernon, is accused of felony domestic violence for allegedly assaulting his live-in girlfriend on July 18. According to the indictment, Young pleaded guilty to another felony domestic violence charge in the Knox County Court of Common Pleas on July 15. Thatcher said Young is scheduled for sentencing on Aug. 20. The indictment also states Young has a prior conviction for assault in the Delaware Municipal Court in 2005, and the offense involved a victim who was a family or household member. Patrolmen Justin Trowbridge and Rex Young, MVPD, investigated the case.

According to the indictment, Jeremy L. Dinsmore, 30, Mount Vernon, was convicted of aggravated menacing in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court in 2003. Thatcher said since the aggravated menacing conviction involved a victim who was a family or household member, Dinsmore was charged with felony domestic violence for allegedly assaulting his wife on July 25. Dinsmore is also accused of abduction for allegedly breaking off a key in the ignition of his wife’s motor vehicle to prevent her from escaping. Deputies Tim Light and Daniel Bobo, KCSO, investigated the case.

Shawn B. Hamilton, 39, Danville, was convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court in 1991, according to his indictment. Deputies Ryan Burgess and Kevin Durbin, KCSO, investigated the case.

Jerad L. Shaw, 29, Mount Vernon, allegedly violated the terms of a civil protection order granted to his ex-wife by the Knox County Court of Common Pleas when he sent her seven harassing text messages in April and May. Thatcher said Shaw’s charges are felonies due to a prior conviction for misdemeanor violating a protection order in the Mount Vernon Municipal Court on Dec. 14, 2009. Patrol Officer Jessica Butler, MVPD, investigated the case.

A Danville woman is accused of setting fire to a barn and its contents, on July 9. Melissa A. Vess, 41, allegedly started the fire with newspaper and a lighter because she was fighting with her live-in boyfriend who had property in the barn. Vess is charged with arson and disrupting public services. The second charge alleges that by setting the barn on fire Vess impaired the ability of firefighters to respond to other legitimate emergencies, according to Thatcher. Detective Sgt. Roger Brown, KCSO, and Investigator Tom Benson, State Fire Marshal’s Office, investigated the case.

On April 24, Patrolman Kyle Theibert, MVPD, confiscated a bag of mushrooms allegedly found to contain Psilocybin from Shannon D. Poulin, 20, Mount Vernon. Psilocybin is a Schedule I controlled substance under Ohio law, according to Thatcher. Poulin is charged with aggravated possession of drugs.

A Warsaw man faces his second felony drunk driving charge and his eighth drunk driving offense in 20 years. On July 30, Robert L. Endsley, 43, was stopped by Deputy Aaron Phillips, KCSO, on Ohio 229 near Gambier after Phillips allegedly watched Endsley weave in and out of his marked lane. Phillips reported he detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Endsley’s person when he approached Endsley’s vehicle. Thatcher said Endsley is charged with another felony, refusing to submit to a chemical test, for allegedly refusing to submit to the offered breath test, and a misdemeanor driving under suspension for driving without a valid license.

Three men are accused of sex offenses in cases investigated by Detective Tom Bumpus, KCSO.

A 12-count indictment filed against Bob L. McCoy, 44, Marion, includes five counts of rape, two counts of sexual battery and five counts of gross sexual imposition. McCoy is accused of engaging in sexual conduct with a male victim when the victim was between the ages of 6 and 12, and a female victim when she was 4, and again between the ages of 10 and 12.

According to the Dayton Daily News, he was picked up Tuesday walking near Kings Island amusement park in Mason.

Malcolm J. Hunter, 21, Mount Vernon, is charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor for allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a 13-year-old female victim, beginning on April 20.

Pruitt, 28, Gambier, allegedly broke into an apartment on Gay Street where they assaulted and robbed the 57-year-old male resident. Detective David McElroy, MVPD, investigated the case.

In related cases, Angela D. Weant, 27, and Rebecca L. Vandall, 45, are accused of theft of a check and forgery. Deputy Tim Light’s investigation revealed that on April 22, Weant and Vandall allegedly stole a blank check from a Howard resident, forged a signature on the check written for $200 and then split the money.

Arraignments are scheduled for Aug. 20, before Knox County Common Pleas Court Judge Otho Eyster.
