  • EMA: Wednesday storm typical

  • August 6, 2010 10:40 am EDT

MOUNT VERNON — The thunderstorm and high winds that hit Knox County on Wednesday did a normal amount of damage, according to Matt Sturgeon, Deputy Director of Knox County Emergency Management. He also said he had no information regarding a possible tornado in the Centerburg area.

“I certainly hadn’t heard anything that suggested there was a tornado [Wednesday],” he said. “We received no reports or any confirmation about any tornados. There would have had to be some pretty serious winds for there to be one.”

Sturgeon said it is the National Weather Service that ultimately makes the call on a tornado and he had heard nothing from them about it.

He said there was the normal damage one would expect from a storm that hit the area on Wednesday. Mostly downed trees and tree limbs but nothing out of the ordinary for that type of storm.
