FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown school board on Tuesday learned the Open House and Meet the Teachers Night for Fredericktown students will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19. That is a correction to the previously announced date, Treasurer Pat Miller told the News on Wednesday. She said the custodians and other staff have worked very hard to make sure the facilities are ready for the students’ first day of school, Aug. 23.

As a cost-savings measure, Miller said, the board froze administrative salaries. The superintendent, treasurer, athletic director and building principals will get no base pay raise for the 2010-11 school year. Also concerning personnel, the board hired Kelly Stanford as food service consultant, employed Kevin Rickly as guidance counselor for grades six through 12, and approved Rebecca Marth as a third-grade teacher. It also approved classified and certified substitute lists, moved Jessica Smith and Stacey Suarez on the salary schedule, and issued supplemental contracts to Kevin Berry, assistant varsity football coach, and Anthony Wilson, JV girls basketball.

In addition to approving routine fiscal actions, the board accepted the following donations: Three backpacks from Berlin Grange; $70.27 from Taste of Country to be used in the elementary library; and a Voices of Aviation grant for the gifted program. The board also approved a 100 percent tax abatement for FT Precision. Miller said the school district will receive an annual payment of $15,339 in lieu of taxes for 15 years, beginning January 2011. The board also authorized participation in the Ohio School Comp Workers Compensation Group Rating program. Miller said she anticipates that will save the district $11,821. The board also moved to participate in the federal school lunch program and set the price for a reduced lunch at 40 cents.

In other action the board:

•Appointed Tom Seymour as delegate to the Ohio School Boards Association Capital Conference. Charles Streby is the alternate.

•Approved bus routes and stops for the 2010-11 school year.

•Approved the 2010-11 Parent/Student Handbook.

•Renewed the contract with Mid-Ohio Transit Authority to transport special education students on an as-needed basis.

•Approved the Flex Credit policy.

No further action was taken.

The next regular meeting if the Fredericktown Board of Education is Tuesday, Sept. 14, at 7 p.m. in the administration board room.
