MOUNT VERNON — Artisans from Knox County and all over the state, country and beyond displayed their work at the Fine Arts and Crafts Fair held Aug. 12-15 as part of the four-day Dan Emmett Music & Arts Festival in downtown Mount Vernon.
Many artisans were showcased in booths on South Main Street.
Wuidler Germain, Haiti, was showing his paintings of life in his native land. Germain has been painting for more than 13 years he said.
“This is the place from my homeland in Haiti,” he said. “This is the latest painting I’ve been working on. The lady with the kids and in the back you can see the tents. This is how they lived after the earthquake. This is another of a market scene and another over here is the tomato fields and how they grow the tomatoes. I enjoy doing the paintings.”
Germain hadn’t sold any paintings as of Friday but was very hopeful.
More locally, Jamie Thorne, Fredericktown, was showing her photography.
“I’ve been doing photography about five years,” she said. “Actually I started in high school but I’ve been doing it professionally for five years. I have some portrait photography that I do. It’s seniors, families and weddings. And I also have some fine art photography which I do with my brothers.”
Thorne’s work included scenes from Mohican State Park, Hocking Hills and other places around the state.
“This is my first art fair,” she said. “It’s just something I wanted to try.”
Deb Steinmetz of Willow Works was also showing work done by the developmentally disabled.
“We are located out at the Developmental Center,” she said. “We have a workshop out there at the greenhouse. We are making this stuff and the individuals do at least some of the work whether it’s sanding or painting. And we also have a greenhouse there, too.”
The Fine Arts and Crafts Fair will be on display today from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
